An Integrative Approach to Optimal Health

Conditions & Symptoms We Treat

At Balance Medical Center, we treat both women and men who suffer from a variety of medical conditions. Below we have identified some of the most common reasons patients seek treatment at Balance Medical Center. This list is not exhaustive. If you have questions about whether we can help, contact the office today or book your consult to speak directly with the doctor.

Common Patient Conditions

Menopause

Patients experiencing menopause often experience hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, weight gain and brain fog. Declining estrogen and progesterone are commonly seen as the main cause of these conditions, but at Balance Medical Center we carefully examine the whole body including full spectrum hormone analysis including thyroid and adrenal hormones. The key to reducing these symptoms is an individual treatment plan specific for your body that will help you feel vibrant again.

Perimenopause

As early as 35, some women start to experience perimenopause, which transitions into menopause. Progesterone decline causes estrogen dysfunction and leads to irregular periods, heavy menstrual flow, breast pain and weight gain. Excess stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices can intensify symptoms. Balancing hormones is especially important in this phase and can be a delicate process. At Balance Medical Center, we take perimenopause very seriously and work with you to achieve your balanced hormone levels.

Andropause

Andropause is the male equivalent to female menopause as the result of declining testosterone. Declining hormones affect men and the symptoms can be equally debilitating. Symptoms include irritability, depression, fatigue, lack of motivation and sleep problems. Low testosterone can also increase the risk for heart disease, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.  Although men experience a slower decrease in hormone levels than women, bio-identical hormones can be used to restore energy, focus and motivation, as well as muscle mass and sexual function.

Erectile Dysfunction

Low testosterone levels are a common cause of erectile dysfunction, although it can still occur with normal testosterone levels. The imbalance of other hormones in combination with nutritional deficiencies can have an adverse impact on testosterone functionality. At Balance Medical Center, we assess the entire hormonal symphony using a comprehensive program that considers lifestyle elements, nutritional supplements and hormonal balancing to improve erectile dysfunction.

Adrenal Dysfunction

External stressors drive our adrenal glands to produce stress hormones including cortisol, DHEA and adrenalin. Overproduction for prolonged periods of time creates hormonal imbalance and eventually adrenal fatigue, where the adrenal glands can no longer produce the stress hormones effectively. Anti-Aging Medicine has found a spectrum of abnormal adrenal function that exists between Addison’s disease and Cushing’s disease. Using a comprehensive treatment program of adrenal support along with lifestyle changes, normal adrenal function can be restored.

Subclinical Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland is responsible for controlling energy production at the cellular level. It is extremely sensitive and even mild reductions in thyroid function can produce fatigue, slow thinking and weight control problems. Subclinical hypothyroidism refers to when conventional thyroid testing indicates normal or borderline results while clinical symptoms are apparent. As thyroid function is affected by many conditions in the body, correcting nutritional deficiencies and hormone imbalances can often correct thyroid function without the need for thyroid medication.

Type II Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is diabetes waiting to happen. It begins with impaired glucose metabolism due to many stressors assaulting the body, such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, excessive alcohol intake and mental stress. Fat begins to accumulate around the waist, cholesterol levels increase, blood pressure rises and impaired glucose metabolism has blossomed into metabolic syndrome. The risk for developing diabetes and heart disease has increased. At Balance Medical Center, we carefully test for signs of metabolic syndrome and diabetes striving for prevention and even restoration with a comprehensive treatment program.

Obesity

Obesity is a pervasive medical problem in our society.  Our high stress lifestyle combined with poor nutrition have lead to an epidemic of obesity in North America.  Apart from feeling tired and unwell, obese patients are at a significantly increased risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and many types of cancer.  Our physicians have a clear understanding of the detrimental effects of obesity, and we recognize the wealth of benefits one gains when weight is lost.  We offer different innovative ways to help our patients lose weight, including our newest program, HCG weight loss.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The human digestive tract has more than one hundred trillion bacteria that form an extensive live community inside our body.  External factors such as processed foods, antibiotics, and painkillers can significantly alter the balance of this delicate environment.  Disruptions in intestinal flora or “dysbiosis” has been linked to a host of medical problems, including arthritis, autoimmunity, chronic fatigue, eczema, psoriasis, food allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, and ulcerative colitis.  At Balance Medical Center, we evaluate the intestinal environment using comprehensive testing.  We use this information to provide the patient with a program that will promote healing and re-balancing of this delicate network.  The ultimate goal is to restore the gastro-intestinal tract to a healthy functional state.

PCOS, PMS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, Fibrocystic Breasts & Ovarian Cysts

All of these conditions are the result of hormone imbalances in young women. The causes are most often related to lifestyle choices such as excessive sugar intake, a diet lacking in green leafy vegetables and complete proteins and ongoing mental stressors. At Balance Medical Center, hormonal balance is restored through an individualized treatment program focused on nutritional supplements, diet correction and establishing an exercise and stress management routine. Bio-identical hormones may also be used to restore normal cycling.

Fatigue

Fatigue is the most common complaint doctors receive and is also the complaint least likely to be resolved. There are many aspects of body functions that can cause fatigue when not working properly. At Balance Medical Center we use comprehensive testing to conduct an in-depth analysis on multiple systems to identify the source of fatigue. Sleep problems, heavy metal toxicity and intestinal dysbiosis are treatable causes using Anti-Aging Medicine, as well as adrenal fatigue and subclinical hypothyroidism.

Insomnia

Sleep is critical to the production of melatonin, the body’s most potent anti-oxidant, and at least ten other hormones. Proper sleep also causes cortisol to drop and subsequently insulin levels to drop - a wonderful natural weight regulator. Overactive adrenal glands late at night are a common cause of insomnia leading to restlessness and an overactive mind. While many people use sleeping pills, this does not treat the cause of the problem and can create unwanted drug dependencies.

Testimonials

[Dr. Kanwal], Thank you for hosting the seminar last night. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn more whenever I can and with my work schedule and mommy schedule it can be difficult to fit in full day seminars. The one hour was great and I plan on trying to make the seminar in September. Many Thanks.
